Hello Snow, We've Missed You!

Well, it’s here! The lifts are officially open, and the slopes are being groomed to perfection. Many resorts opened a little earlier than last weekend, but for most, the 15th December was the big opening day. If you’ve been keeping a beady eye on the snow forecast like us, you’ll know that the Alps has had a pretty amazing dump of snow these past few weeks. Tignes had up to 70cm worth! The rest of the Alps followed; Serre Chevalier and Les Arcs all got amazing snowfall. No snow cannons needed!

Dave and Christine took the above photo while skiing in Serre Chevalier earlier this week. Doesn’t it just look absolutely stunning? Our new staff are in the throes of looking after the first guests of the season this week, and the Christmas decorations are up. We have some availability for Christmas in Serre Chevalier or catered chalets in Vallandry as well as New Year (Vallandry). Take a look at some of our wonderful deals!

In between hosting, our teams have been making the most of the local winter sports. Dave and Christine took the team to a Briançon Reds Ice Hockey game last Saturday (we invite our guests too!), plus the local Christmas markets are open - something we look forward to each year. More snow’s on its way later this week – check out the snow forecast at www.snow-forecast.com.

Tonight (Thursday) we’ll be inviting guests to join us for an apres ski drink on the mountain as the sun goes down, followed by some mulled wine and cake back at our lodge. Friday is one of our favourite days of the week - it’s our Fancy Dress Evening! France is usually the theme, so our fake moustaches, onions and berets are never far away. Guests are invited to join in the fun dressing up as their favourite French character and playing a round of boules.

If you’re undecided where you’re going to ski this season, check out the local Tourist Information websites. Serre Chevalier has a great virtual visit tool and Peisey-Vallandry’s website gives you details of local shops, services, activities and maps. In Tignes, our lodge is based in Les Brevieres, one of the more traditional resorts. Here’s a great ‘What’s On in Tignes’ guide to events this Winter. Not forgetting our Slovenian counterpart, Bovec… check out the Tourist Information Centre’s website here.

What's new? In Serre Chevalier, they’ve completed construction of a new chairlift between Villeneuve and Chantemerle. This will open out the ski area providing easier access between the slopes.

This year we’re sure our teams will be back out on their toboggans. Guests joined Dave and Christine last year and it was hilarious fun. Did you know that Serre Chevalier hosts its own Grand Prix each year? This season, the famous ‘Serre Chevalier Grand Prix de France’ will be back on Saturday 16th March 2019. Attracting over 800 participants, you race by skis or snowboard through Briançon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Monêtier. There are two fun courses; the 'Parcours des Dingues' for those wanting the full-on intense skiing experience, and the 'Parcours des Doux' full of blue and red runs for anyone over eight years old who are looking for a more relaxed - but still challenging! - skiing competition. For children there’s even a Mini Grand Prix held at the foot of the slopes in Monêtier-les-Bains. Next year we’re hoping to enter a team in the main event. Wish us luck!

Don’t forget that there’s a whole host of extra activities and events you can enjoy while you’re on one of our chalet ski holidays including sleigh rides, snow shoeing, local tours of the towns and landmarks, dog sledding and paragliding. However you choose to spend your Winter holiday, make it your best adventure yet.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at Hucksters. We hope to see you again soon.

The staff were more like friends than employees and knew the area very well. Can't fault them. They sorted an issue with my wife's ski pass with as little stress as was possible. To start your day of skiing one had only to walk about 20m from the door, pop your skis on and off you go. You could eit...

We have travelled with Hucksters as both a school group and a family for an incredible 18 years. Never have I worked with a company who is so flexible and accommodating to individual needs. The ski and board options are exciting and varied to suit all abilities, from novice to the extreme, from door...

Hucksters, are to be highly recommended as they offer a very personalised service at package deal prices and take a genuine interest in making sure you have a good time. I have done 4 trips with them in the last 2 years so they must be doing something right!

If you're looking for 5* accommodation where chalet girls wash your feet and sing you to sleep, just stop reading now. If you're not one of the privileged elite, but still want to see snow once or twice a year, head here. I cannot really fault any aspect of the holiday. If you want a low cost skiin...

The wider your snowplough is, the slower your speed will be.
