Warm the soul with Vin Chaud

Bring the mountains to your home this Spring with a glass of Vin Chaud. While the days have been filled with glorious sunshine these past weeks in the UK, there have been some chillier evenings. What better time to sit back and enjoy a glass of Vin Chaud while you’re at home. Try it for yourself this April. A great way to use up leftover wine and bring back good memories of your Winter holiday in the French Alps.

Ingredients:

  • 1 orange (skin peeled into strips)
  • 1 bottle of red wine (a fruity one is best such as a Merlot or young Pinot Noir)
  • 35g granulated sugar
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 4-5 cloves (depending on how strong a flavour you like it)
  • 2 cardamom pods (and 2 star anise for added flavour, but not necessary)

Method:

Add all the ingredients to a saucepan or deep cooking pan and heat (low heat) to a simmer. Once the sugar has dissolved the Vin Chaud is almost ready. Strain the wine through a sieve or fine cloth to remove the spices and return the liquid to the pan. Leave to simmer again for 5-10 minutes before removing and serving.

Enjoy!

You don't have to buy the snowshoes, ice grippers and trekking poles you'll need on mountain walks. If you don't have the necessary kit for hiking, Evolution 2 offer kit for hire.

If you're not one of the privileged elite, but still want to see snow once or twice a year, head here. I cannot really fault any aspect of the holiday. If you want a low cost skiin...

Always wear your helmet and be mindful of the position your skis are pointing when carrying them around to avoid accidentally hitting anyone.
