Our Sizzling Summer in the French Alps

Wowee– can you believe that it’s almost September? We’ve flown through summer with a hop, skip and a jump! Plenty has happened including the Tour de France back in July, and we’ve been exploring the very best that the local landscape has to offer in the French Alps. We're busy planning for winter at the moment, so keep your eyes peeled for more info on our team, offers and menus! We will, of course, be at this year's Ski and Snowboard Show at Battersea Park - we'll have a stand with MPI Brokers. In the meantime, we look back at our sizzling summer of fun...

Did You Hear About a Man Called Geraint Who Won a Cycling Race?

Julie and Paul were among the lucky few to see the race pass through Bourg St Maurice. We snapped the lead riders as they started their climb up to Rosière. We hosted guests during the week and packed a picnic for the ride by. At the time, Team Sky were just behind, and, of course, Geraint Thomas went on to win the stage and finally the whole race. There was amazing race action this year!

Adrenaline-filled Activities and a Proposal!

We had two jam packed Adventure Weeks hosted by Dave and Christine in Serre Che. We certainly threw some challenging activities at our guests! Activities included white-water rafting, mountain biking, via ferrata, hiking and a tree-top adventure. It was a pleasure to host Susie and her team, AKA Kayak for Blackthorn, who were raising money for The Blackthorn Trust during their week with us in August. They overcame our tough challenges in style and completely smashed their fundraising goal of £10,000 while they were at it! The Kent-based Trust is a charity offering specialist therapies and rehabilitation for the disabled. To find out more click here.

We also had a proposal during the week! Congratulations to Phil and Danni on their engagement and for conquering some awesome cols. What a way to propose! Our Adventure Weeks will return again next year...

Festivals and Straw Statues

Every year, Peisey Vallandry holds a local village festival which celebrates all the agricultural traditions of the area. Julie went along and captured all the festivities including a fantastic parade and insights from the local people in how the village moves with the animals to the high pastures in the summer. The summer also welcomes the annual Valloire Straw and Hay Contest. Just a short drive away, across the Col du Galibier, these statues come in all shapes and sizes. The contestants' creativity is really inspiring and the talent that goes into them just blows us away.

Taking advantage of the glorious sunshine, Paul, Natalie and Max rode to Bourg St Maurice from the top of the Col D’ Iseran, encompassing a total of 50km– which all three did! Check out the start of their adventure in our Instagram video.

By dispensing with things such as towels and complimentary toiletries (bring your own) and guaranteed en suite bathrooms, Hucksters has managed to create accommodation that is definitely communal and cheap but in that no-frills way that makes you feel pretty smug at the money you are saving. You don't have to buy the snowshoes, ice grippers and trekking poles you'll need on mountain walks. If you don't have the necessary kit for hiking, Evolution 2 offer kit for hire.

My girlfriend and I stayed in Vallandry with Hucksters for 6 days and had a great time with a very friendly environment including not only the staff, but also the other customers. The room was also nice, warm and very functional with the slopes only few meters away from the chalet. Therefore and acc...

Always wear your helmet and be mindful of the position your skis are pointing when carrying them around to avoid accidentally hitting anyone.
